When
the virus copies itself in the host computer files,
the original virus can modify the copies or the copies
can modify themselves. Pc viruses can also be transferred
from computer to computer by removable mediums
such as floppy disks, CDs, USB drives etc..
The term “virus” is often used to describe
all types of harmful computer programs. Pc viruses can
be mistaken for things called computer worms and
Trojan horses. A computer worm is a type of program
that can spread through to other computers without
needing to be transferred as part of a host; while
a Trojan horse is is a file that looks harmless until
it is used on the computer.
Many computers are connecting to the internet via
local area networks. Internet and local area network
connections both facilitate the spreading of pc viruses.
Some viruses also exploit networking services like
the World Wide Web, email and file sharing systems
in order to spread to multiple computers.
Viruses are programmed to do different types of damage
to your computer. Some pc viruses are programmed to damage
your computer by damaging important programs, deleting
files or reformatting the hard disk. Some viruses
are not meant to cause damage to your computer but
may result in your computer displaying unwanted text,
video or audio messages.
Most viruses, no matter how harmless, can cause trouble
for a computer’s user. Pc viruses can also take up your
computer’s memory. Also, some viruses have bugs
that can cause system crashes and loss of valuable
data.
