Browser Security - Even Your Browser Needs To Be Protected

To understand the need for browser security you need to know what is a browser. A browser is a program that runs on your computer and lets you browse the internet such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox etc. Already I am sure you can realise this important function will require good browser security.

When you type in a URL or click on a link, your browser sends a request to a remote web server specified by the URL, then the web server sends back a reply. This reply is usually in the form of a web page. Browsers can also use other programs to display data (PDF files etc.).

Sometimes browsers can have bugs in them. A bug is a mistake in the browsers programming hence the reason we have browser security issues.

Programmers make errors just like anyone else and most bugs in browsers are caused by simple typos. Some bugs can be used to violate the security of your computer.

Since your browser receives information sent by different web sites, web sites can send information that use a bug in your browser and compromise your browser security.

Browsers can be exploited by different people. Web site operators or hackers can modify the code of their own websites or those of others to hack into the browsers of all the visitors to a web site. Email programs can also be used to exploit bugs in browsers. This has led to the development of browser security software.

This is accomplished by someone sending harmful emails that are designed to use your web browser in order to exploit a bug and jeopardize your browser security. Bugs in a browser can allow different security attacks. There are some bugs that can make your web browser download and run programs without asking permission or providing a warning.

If a program is downloaded to your computer without your knowledge, it can be potentially very harmful for your computer. Some programs are designed to destroy files and infect the computer with viruses. Other programs, designed by hackers can install remote control software on your computer or hack into your email messages.

Browser bugs can be used to exploit your browser security for a variety of reasons. Some people just like to cause harm to other people’s computers, while others use bugs to steal personal information.

Whatever the reason, it is important to learn how to protect your computer from bugs that can be used to exploit your browser’s security.

Antivirus software programs keep your computer safe to a certain extent. Antivirus programs search for virus signatures.

If a file on your computer contains a signature, the antivirus software will decide whether or not the file is infected with a virus.

Antivirus software can also search for virus signatures as you browse different web pages. One thing about antivirus software programs is that they only search for known viruses. New viruses and worms are created all the time.

In order for your computer to be secure from harmful viruses, three things have to happen; First the antivirus company has to be aware of the virus, the virus signature must be added to the software database and you have to install a new signature database onto your computer.

Having antivirus browser security software installed on your computer can limit the amount of damage that can be done to your computer. However, antivirus software programs do not provide complete protection.

You can protect yourself from browser security problems by downloading patches from the vendor of the browser. Every time a security bug in a browser is discovered, the vendor issues a patch to correct the problem. Patches can be downloaded and installed onto your computer for free.
