Spyware - What You Need To Be Aware Of?

Spyware is a type of computer software that is installed on a computer without the knowledge or consent of the user. Spyware programs intend to intercept or take control of the user’s interaction with the computer.

Spyware software monitors the actions of the user; but also can complete other types of activity.

Other types of activities that Spyware programs can do are collecting personal information, installing viruses and downloading unauthorized software to the user’s computer.

Spyware secretly installed on your computer can also redirect your web browsing activity and cause annoying advertising pop ups.

Spyware is often only one component of harmful software programs. Often times, when a computer is infected with Spyware programs other types of programs can gain access to the computer through the spy ware program. Computer users who have their machines infected with spy ware will often notice unwanted behavior from the computer.

Unwanted behavior created by a Spyware infestation can encompass increased activity and disk usage. The Spyware programs can slow down the computer and prevent it from working properly. In a lot of cases, the presence of Spyware is not evident. Unsuspecting users can often attribute Spyware related problems to damaged hardware.

Many spy ware programs will display advertisements. The most well known type of spy ware is that of the pop up advertisements. Spyware programs that display advertisements will usually design the Spyware to show the ads every several minutes or when the user opens a new browser window.

Sometimes spy ware will display advertisements that relate to the users browsing habits. The spy ware programs will usually base the type of advertisements displayed on the sites in which the user visits.

In addition to displaying advertisements, Spyware can also be used to generate revenue for affiliate programs.

Some users of Spyware will design a program that redirects the browsing activity of the computer user.

When the computer user is browsing the internet, the Spyware program can send the user to affiliate websites. This type of Spyware is mainly used to commit affiliate fraud.

People involved in affiliate programs can design Spyware that will send users to their websites unknowingly.
Instead of having advertisements pop up, the user’s browser will be forced to visit a web site unintentionally. When the affiliate site is visited, the designer of the Spyware will get money from the traffic. Using Spyware in this way is considered fraud.

Having Spyware installed on your computer can get very annoying. Spyware will often slow down your computer and make your internet browsing difficult. If you are plagued with annoying pop ups and Spyware programs that redirect your browser, try using a different web browser.

Currently, there are different web browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox that have pop up blockers. Alternatively, there are programs that you can download that will search for Spyware installed on your computer. Some antivirus programs even search for Spyware.

One way to combat Spyware programs is to get a good antivirus software program. Most antivirus software programs will search your computer for viruses and other potentially harmful programs like Spyware. Once you realize that you have Spyware on your computer, try to remove the program in which you think it is associated.

Often times, Spyware programs can be attached to programs you have recently downloaded to your computer. Removing the program will be a good start. Additionally, try to scan your computer regularly to check for Spyware programs. Spyware programs can be installed on your computer without your knowledge and it is very possible for them to be installed every time you browse the internet.
